Taking council to the suburbs

RESIDENTS are invited to an external Ipswich City Council meeting at Springfield in May this year.

The meeting will be held at Hymba Yumba School at 6 Springfield Parkway Springfield from 9.30am on Tuesday 29 May 2018.

Economic Development and Digital City Committee chairman Cr Paul Tully said council had held external meetings since 2004 with the most recent at Sacred Heart School Booval in October last year.

“This is about taking council and the city’s elected representatives to the suburbs and continuing to engage with the community.

“Before and after the meeting residents can meet the council team and discuss issues that are impacting their lives and the wider community.

“External meetings give people the opportunity to learn more about the processes involved in council and also allows them to share their ideas,” Cr Tully said.

Local councillor David Morrison said the meeting would provide a unique learning experience for students at the Division 1 school.

“These meetings are a learning experience for students who are able to view local government in action.

“It has the potential to inspire a new generation of potential leaders with a vision to further progress our great city,” Cr Morrison said.

Council also approved a change to the date of the scheduled ordinary meeting that was to be held on 24 April 2018. It will now be held on Monday 23 April 2018 owing to councillors’ attendance at a number of ANZAC commemorative services on the eve of ANZAC day.
