The kids are taking over Ipswich Central these school holidays

The new Interim Children’s Library at Ipswich Central is opening on Monday, just in time for school holidays.

Located on the ground floor of the previous Ipswich Central Library at South Street, the Interim Children’s Library features an extensive children’s collection with more than 20,000 items, as well as a dedicated STEAM Lab and Kids’ Corner.

Mayor Teresa Harding said the Ipswich Libraries team was excited to offer special programming at the Interim Children’s Library over the school holidays.

“The Interim Children’s Library is set to be a hub of activity these school holidays,” Mayor Harding said.

“In addition to the innovative technology and interactive learning experiences in the STEAM Lab and Kids’ Corner, the Interim Children’s Library will also offer exciting children’s events and programs.

“These will include regular story time and book beats, as well as a special Christmas program, ‘Celebrating Twelve Days of Christmas’.”

Mayor Harding said Monday’s opening of the Interim Children’s Library marks a major milestone in the development of the ground breaking new library experience at Ipswich Central.

“The opening of the Interim Children’s Library marks a significant step towards building better libraries here in Ipswich,” she said.

The countdown is on to the opening of the brand new Ipswich Central Library at the Nicholas Street Precinct on 7 December 2020, and then Australia’s first purpose built library for children in mid-2021.

“Through the new Ipswich Central Library and Children’s Library we’re improving the overall experience for everyone who visits our libraries,” Mayor Harding said.

Parents and caregivers will also have access to some of the general collection at the Interim Children’s Library, through the Ipswich Libraries marketplace collection.

People may also choose to collect their reserved items from the Interim Children’s Library.

The Interim Children’s Library will operate from 23 November 2020 until mid-2021 when the new Children’s Library is expected to open in the Nicholas Street Precinct.

All Ipswich Libraries branches including Springfield Central, Redbank Plains, Redbank Plaza, Rosewood, Ipswich Central and the Interim Children’s Library will be closed from 1pm on Thursday, 24 December 2020 to Monday, 4 January 2021 for the Christmas break.
