These seven bargain buys will go under the hammer at council car auction

In the market for a motor? Council will auction a collection of abandoned vehicles and you could bag a bargain for a few hundred dollars. The cars come as is, which means the odd piece of police tape, empty energy drink can and possibly a pair of shoes. Take a look at seven cars set to go under the hammer in December.

Hyundai Getz hatch

Abandoned vehicle 464 impounded at Hallets Road, Redbank Plains. Similar cars are being sold online for between $3,500 and $5,000.

Holden Commodore sedan

Abandoned vehicle 474 impounded at Statham Court, Redbank Plains. Similar cars are being sold online for between $2,000 and $5,000.

Honda Jazz hatch

Abandoned vehicle 493 impounded at Marigold Close, Springfield Lakes. Similar cars are being sold online for between $6,000 and $9,000.

Toyota Tarago van

Abandoned vehicle 466 impounded at Fossicker Court, Springfield. Similar cars are being sold online for between $2,500 and $5,000.

Dodge Caliber hatch

Abandoned vehicle 477 impounded at the Ripley exit of the Cunningham Highway. Similar cars are being sold online for between $8,000 and $12,000.

Hyndai Elantra sedan

Abandoned vehicle 471 impounded at Marie Street, Goodna. Similar cars are being sold online for between $2,000 and $5,000.

Holden Commodore sedan

Abandoned vehicle 491 impounded at Chalk Street, Redbank. Similar cars are being sold online for between $2,000 and $5,000.

Take a moment to note these Ts and Cs before you hit the road

  • The auction will be held at 10am on Wednesday 6 December at the council depot at 2 Kenneth Street, Riverview.
  • The depot will be open for vehicle viewing from 8.30am on the day.
  • If you own one of the vehicles shown in this story and want to reclaim it please call council on 3810 6666.
  • Have a plan to legally tow or transport your purchase from the depot. Remember that word ‘legally’.
  • A forklift will not be available to move vehicles.
  • Purchases need to be removed from the depot by 4pm on Thursday 7 December or additional release fees will apply.
  • Vehicles are for sale under Section 100 of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1995 and the Local Government Act 2009.
  • Council can withdraw vehicles from auction without prior notice.
