Two new COVID-19 cases

Two new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in Queensland with both linked to existing known cases.

One is a female healthcare worker in her 30s who is a household contact of a previous confirmed case.

The other is a student at Staines Memorial College.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said authorities were comfortable with the results.

There are now 28 active cases and 18,151 tests have been conducted in the past 24 hours.

When asked by the media, the Premier rejected claims that there is a significant spread of coronavirus in the South-East.

“That is not correct, it is contained,” she said.

Redbank Plains’ Staines Memorial College remains closed as about 600 students are tested for COVID-19.

Queensland Health has advised that if you have received a quarantine direction as a parent for your child or children, you need to ensure anyone listed on that quarantine direction remains at home for the full quarantine period.

To reduce the possibility of spread:

  • Do not have visitors in your home
  • Elderly people with compromised immune systems should stay elsewhere if possible
  • Household cleaning should increase with particular attention to touched surfaces with extra attention to the kitchen, laundry and bathroom.
  • All household members should physically distance as much as possible, avoid physical contact and wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue, throw it in the bin straight away and wash hands.

Stay calm and connected and reassure your child that you will take care of them no matter what happens.

  1. Wonderful idea to have a new retail complex at Yamanto. Woolworths and Aldi are already there and Coles is being built, plus all the other eateries and service businesses. The proposed development should keep even more people out of the redeveloped (at great cost) city centre and provide more congestion at the Yamanto intersection with longer waits at the lights and heated tempers. If developers really want to fill some retail gaps, why not find a place that hasn’t got adequate existing services. We keep hearing about the need for improved infrastructure to move traffic away from congested areas, then consider creating even more congestion.
