Video offers first look at game-changing CBD water play area by night

A video previewing the new Nicholas St civic plaza by night has been released.

The clip shows the game-changing zero depth water play area and eye-catching light display which will take place in the plaza nightly.

The newly installed zero depth water play area includes a water curtain which descends from the ceiling void of a shade pavilion creating a rainfall effect.

Underground jets will send streams of water into the air, which can be coordinated with the lighting to create a rainbow of different colours and effects.

Children of all ages will be able to play in the zero depth water area, while families and visitors will be able to enjoy the light and water spectacular each night.

Further on in the plaza, the former Woolworths loading dock has been repurposed as a trendy deck venue.

There is also fairy lighting and up-lighting to illuminate the deck’s feature trees. Coloured, coordinated lighting has also been installed under each of the seating areas in the plaza.

The $250 million Nicholas St redevelopment includes construction of a new council administration building with children’s library on the ground floor, new general library and new civic plaza.

It is set to deliver new experiences in local entertainment, boost the city’s economy by attracting visitors and tourists and reactive the heart of the city as a vibrant space for the community to work, play, eat and shop.
