Cool places to celebrate love and marriage in Ipswich

Brischetto Photography

Marriage, equality and love are all hot topics this week. At least one venue in Ipswich has spent more than $20,000 advertising their product to the same-sex wedding market. But let’s face it, Ipswich was always pretty good for weddings. Check out some of our best venues.

Michael and Randall Ellison pledged their love for one another in a commitment ceremony last year in March.

“We did not think that marriage equality would be so soon,” Michael said.

“Even though we had our ceremony, if something was to happen to me my partner has no right to anything of mine because legally he’s not recognised as my next of kin.

“We really were not interested in getting married until we found out we had no rights as a couple.”

After they were married, Michael had to pay to change his name by deed poll.

The yes vote was not surprising to Michael who said they had always received a lot of support in their community. Michael and Randall are Woodlands of Marburg directors and plan to walk down the aisle again next year.

“We have booked Woodlands of Marburg for the exact same date next year. It falls on a Monday,” he said.

“We’ve already spent $20,000 on advertising, trying to break into the same sex wedding market.

“I think it’s going to help the economy by boosting the wedding industry. For our location, it’s going to be a massive benefit to us at Marburg and back to the Ipswich community because we shop locally and support our small business in the area.”

The same sex survey got everyone talking about marriage and it got us here at Ipswich First thinking about where are the best spots for a wedding.

We put together 5 venues in Ipswich that would make for a lovely wedding.

Gay, straight or otherwise.

A statement from the Attorney General Senator George Brandis states:

The right to marry in Australia will no longer be determined by sex or gender.

Marriage will now be defined in the Marriage Act 1961 as the ‘union of two people to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life’.

Same-sex couples now have the same rights under the Marriage Act as all other couples.

These historic reforms will commence on Saturday 9 December 2017.

As from Saturday, same-sex couples will be able to lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage to commence the one month minimum notice period required before the solemnisation of marriages under the Marriage Act.

Under the new laws, ministers of religion and religious marriage celebrants will be able to act in accordance with their religious beliefs about marriage.

Woodlands of Marburg

This nineteenth century mansion is perfect for a luxurious wedding. The estate is nestled among 250 acres of countryside and ceremony locations include a classic chapel, immaculate gardens, Rose Hill, and The Vineyard. The reception can be held in any of the original dining rooms, the underground cellar or outdoors under a marquee. Boutique accommodation is available for your nearest and dearest.

Queens Park

Ipswich’s most well-known landmark. What better place for love to blossom? The bush chapel is located at the top of the park off Merle Finimore Avenue, behind the historic bushhouse and glasshouse. You will have to get in early. Due to the popularity of the Bush Chapel for ceremonies, permits will only be issued for a period of 2.5 hours. You can always pop on down to the flying fox for some fun pictures afterwards.

Spicers Hidden Vale

If you are thinking of marriage, you might have had plenty of time to save your pennies, so why not go all out and have your ceremony at Spicers Hidden Vale.

Ivory’s Rock

Looking to become one with nature as well as your significant other? It’s a special and unique place. You could be married surrounded by native gum trees standing next to a lake, with a towering rock formation overhead.

Kholo Gardens

Kholo Gardens is the perfect place for couples seeking a stripped back and tranquil wedding day. You can get married in the gardens or in the Garden’s wooden church. There is a nearby lily pond and multiple walking tracks that meander through the sub-tropical rainforest. You can also have your reception on site, in a beautiful Queenslander.
