Harry Wiseman, 4, is all smiles with Hickory Dickory Dash at Ipswich Central Library.
Three Ipswich locations will host festivities for Australia’s biggest annual storytime event this Wednesday, 23 May.
The clock is counting down for National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) with events to be held at Ipswich Central Library, Redbank Plaza Library and Orion Springfield Central.
The 18th annual NSS will be held at 10.30am as Ipswich children join more than 650,000 from around Australia for a reading of Hickory Dickory Dash.
Tony Wilson’s book tells the story of a mother mouse who can’t find her sons and a sneaky cat who is ready to pounce on the unsuspecting brothers.
It is the second consecutive year Wilson’s work will be featured at storytime. His book The Cow Tripped over the Moon was read nationally in 2017.
Ipswich Libraries spokesman Councillor David Pahlke said NSS was all about promoting literacy and the value and fun of books.
“The day celebrates an Australian author with the work read in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and workplaces across the country,” Cr Pahlke said.
“Ipswich events are always well supported. Last year the city was among 6,129 locations nationally and in 2018 New Zealand will take part for the very first time.
“In Ipswich we will expand upon the NSS themes with a selection of stories and activities for children under five.”
