Zero new cases today reaching eight days without community transmission

There were zero new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Queensland today.

Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said if there are no new cases over the next week she will remove the additional restrictions for Ipswich and the Brisbane Metropolitan area.

There are currently 25 active cases of COVID-19 in Queensland with 5,751 people tested in the past 24 hours.

Queensland borders will open to the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) at 1am on Friday, September 25.

Anyone from Canberra who has been in a declared hotspot in the past 14 days will not be allowed into Queensland.

That means people must fly and you must have been in Canberra for 14 days prior to travel.

Health Minister Steven Miles said the timing is to coincide the the ACT’s school holidays.

“We’ve been saying for some time now that for Queenslanders, Queensland is good to go, well now for Canberrans, Queensland is good to come.

“Now is the time we would urge them to start thinking about coming up to Queensland for a holiday.”

Minister Miles also said testing of the Hervey Bay sewerage had revealed low levels of viral fragments in the waste water and while there was no need to panic, the public health unit there would be increasing in activity to make sure there is no community transmission there.

Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said it’s a little bit early to totally relax just yet as we are now eight days without community transmission.

“It’s really important, more important than ever that if you have any symptoms to come forward and get tested and isolate yourself,” Dr Young said.

“This is important across the whole state.”

Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, fatigue or loss of taste or smell.
