Eyes on Ipswich sky for Air Tattoo at free viewing hubs

Grab a picnic blanket and a camera before heading to one of council’s free viewing hubs to get great views of the Ipswich Amberley Air Tattoo on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 October.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the Ipswich Amberley Air Tattoo is sold out as expected, but non ticket holders can witness the thrills at special viewing hubs.

“Ipswich is the home of Australia’s largest Air Force base, RAAF Base Amberley and council is proud to partner with Defence on what will be a magnificent gathering of air power here in Ipswich,” Mayor Harding said.

“Tickets sold out quickly, but residents can still get a great view of the flying displays from special hubs set up in Ipswich Central, Springfield Central and Rosewood.

“We are thrilled to partner with Defence and would like to invite the community to come along to a free viewing hub and share in the excitement of the air spectacular.”

Economic and Industry Development Committee Chairperson Councillor Nicole Jonic said the Air Tattoo will add another bright chapter in Ipswich’s rich defence history.

“RAAF Base Amberley has been an integral part of the Ipswich community for more than 80 years, first commencing operations in 1940 during World War II,” Cr Jonic said.

“After 20,000 tickets were sold per day for the event, we wanted to make sure there was an opportunity for those who did not get one to still be part of the day.

“There will be two magnificent displays each day and the free viewing hubs were chosen so no matter where you live in Ipswich, there is a viewing hub close by.”
