Free kerbside collection commencing in Bundamba

It is time to clean out the spare room or under the house as council’s free large item kerbside collection begins on 18 April 2022 for one week in Bundamba.

Growth, Infrastructure and Waste Committee Chairperson, Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the scheduled service was now back in full swing after council redirected resources to remove flood waste material.

“Bundamba residents can take this opportunity to collect anything that can be disposed of from around your home, such as broken furniture, toys and other unwanted appliances,” Mayor Harding said.

Division 3 Councillor Marnie Doyle said about 2,937 homes across Bundamba would be visited by kerbside collection crews from Monday 18 April.

“This kerbside collection service means bulky items that cannot be reused or recycled can be picked up free of charge,” Cr Doyle said.

Division 3 Councillor Andrew Fechner said the collection service was great for disposing of items not suitable for the general waste or recycling bins.

“Residents should place items on the kerb by the weekend before their scheduled collection commencement date, but not more than seven days prior,” Cr Fechner said.

“With large parts of Bundamba significantly impacted by the recent flood it was important to redirect collection resources to assist these residents.

“However, it’s great to see the scheduled service recommence across Bundamba.”

Kerbside collection was paused and resources reallocated to support flood impacted areas.

Kerbside collection guidelines are:

  • Items do not exceed two cubic metres in volume (one small box trailer)
  • Items can be easily and safely lifted by two people
  • No sharp or dangerous objects are placed on kerbside
  • Piles are tidy on the kerbside and roadway is kept clear
  • Doors are removed from cupboards
  • Outdoor play equipment is to be dismantled

Read the guidelines on what is an acceptable item to put on the footpath as only acceptable items will be collected.

Acceptable items include furniture, mattresses, household appliances, carpet, lino, bath and laundry tubs, bicycles and outdoor play equipment.

Appliances containing refrigerants such as fridges, freezers and air conditioners cannot be accepted.

Personal Hardship Grants are available through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements for eligible flood-affected residents in Ipswich.

Australian Red Cross is providing financial assistance to people affected by the recent floods. A $500 relief grant is available if your primary place of residence was flood-affected, to help with basic needs such as food, clothing and personal items.

Part of a sports club or organisation? The Sport and Recreation Disaster Recovery Program supports not-for-profit sport and recreation organisations with funding to re-establish facilities and activities after extreme natural events.
