Ipswich Visitor Centre needs your vote in people’s choice tourism awards

The Ipswich Visitor Information Centre is calling for the community’s vote after being announced as a finalist in the 2021 Queensland Tourism Awards’ RACQ People’s Choice Awards.

Sitting atop picturesque Queens Park, the centre is up against neighbouring attractions in the Scenic Rim and Gold Coast Hinterland along with almost 100 popular experiences and services across the state.

Mayor Teresa Harding said the city’s Visitor Information Centre is a wonderful first stop for anyone planning a trip to Ipswich.

“The centre is home to dozens of volunteer Discover Ipswich Ambassadors and dedicated staff who, seven days a week, provide helpful and friendly advice on the city’s attractions, heritage and history,” Mayor Harding said.

“The nomination is a testament to the dedication of our incredible volunteers and Ipswich’s welcoming community spirit.”

Ipswich’s award-winning Visitor Information Centre offers tourists more than just a café and refreshments, tourist maps, restroom facilities and parking for cars, caravans and coaches.

It is a launch pad for popular attractions including Animal Encounters at the Ipswich Nature Centre, sell-out Japanese Tea Ceremonies, Ipswich heritage bus tours, and promotes Ipswich’s major events and festivals. The centre is also a feature of the Ipswich Trekker program as well as showcasing the work of local artists and producers and selling their goods in the Centre’s retail space.

The awards are a partnership between Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) and RACQ, but it will be Queenslanders who will vote for their favourite tourism businesses.

QTIC said the awards were about celebrating the exceptional achievements of the State’s tourism operators, particularly while navigating the pandemic.

Voting is now open and closes 5pm Friday, 1 October. The winners will be announced at the Queensland Tourism Awards on 12 November at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
