New art award encourages community to express themselves

Ipswich Hospice Care is launching an online art competition to help unite the city’s arts community amid tough times.

Ipswich Hospice Care events coordinator Janette Adams said they are inviting the entire community to enter artwork into the awards.

“The Ipswich Art Awards was postponed this year and so this is an opportunity for our artisan community to enter their art,” Ms Adams said.

“So many people within our community has experienced isolation that has been quite challenging.

“The Ipswich Hospice Care Art Awards offers a chance for the community to express themselves creatively during this time.”

Entries are being accepted in eight categories; Oil, Acrylic, Watercolour, Photography, Textiles, Works on Paper, Mixed Media including 3D and a Student Category Aged 16 and Under.

The entry fees are $22 for one entry per artist or $55 for three entries per artist.

The award prizes offer a first place of $250 and a second place of $100 for each of the categories excluding the student category which will award a first place prize pack valued at over $100.

There will also be an overall Art Awards prize, the Butterfly Award, sponsored by Arttime Supplies.

The prize includes a two week exhibition of the artist’s works in the Arttime Supplies Drawing Point Gallery, valued at $470.

Ms Adams said the artwork will also be for sale.

“The art sale is a chance to support Ipswich Hospice Care fundraising efforts and the local artisans by purchasing the art,” she said.

“Ipswich Hospice Care is a community owned seven bed palliative care facility and bereavement service in need of funds to continue offering such an amazing service.

“I really hope to make a positive impact in our community through these awards.”
