Work has started on a new modern combined amenities block and barbecue shelter at the historic Rosewood Showgrounds.
Division 4 Councillor Kate Kunzelmann said that the need for modern facilities was identified in conjunction with the Rosewood community.
“Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding, Councillor Russell Milligan and I met with the Rosewood Show Society and Rosewood Lions to discuss the location and layout of the facility,” Cr Kunzelmann said.
“The old barbecue shelter has been demolished and construction of the new barbecue shelter and combined amenities block has begun.
“The new amenities block and barbecue shelter are expected to be completed in May 2022, depending on weather.”

Division 4 Councillor Russell Milligan said current amenities at the Rosewood Showgrounds had been identified as part of council’s asset rehabilitation program for replacement.
“Once built, the combined amenities block will have male, female and person with disability toilets and showers and a laundry room,” Cr Milligan said.
“The new facility also includes a new barbecue shelter with barbecues and picnic tables.
“A new pathway will be installed joining the barbecue shelter and amenities block to the cultural hall and the car park.
“Once the work is completed on the new modern facilities, the existing amenities block will be demolished.
“Council will continue to invest in improving infrastructure throughout Ipswich, with these new facilities supporting both local users and visitors to the Rosewood Showgrounds for years to come.”

A fenced construction zone has been created and there may be increased noise from construction equipment and vehicles.
Cr Kunzelmann and Cr Milligan have asked for residents, visitors and businesses to please be patient as council conducts these important works, as the completed facilities will benefit the community.
