It’s not Frosty, Ipswich’s own Snowy

Tower Central Café Ipswich owner Karen Ladlay has come up with a nifty idea to decorate her shop for Christmas.

She created Snowy; a snowman made out of coffee cups.

“We have been trying for the past four years to encourage our customers to bring their own cup,” Karen said.

“No matter what size it is, you only pay $3.50 for your coffee.”

Karen noticed that finally this year a lot of people had jumped on the BYO bandwagon.

“The cups don’t break down and you can’t recycle them,” she said.

“This way they will be recycled as we will bring Snowy out again in years to come. I reckon this is about how many coffee cups we have saved by people bringing their own.”

There are more than 250 cups and 600 staples holding Snowy together.

Karen’s youngest daughter Bri helped make him over two days using three giant balls of small, medium and large coffee cups.

Customers have had plenty to say about the cafe’s new addition.

“Customers like to have their picture taken with Snowy. We’ve even had some customers put our tips in his cups,” Karen said.

“They only problem with Snowy, his nose keeps falling out.”

I suppose that’s what happens when you have a snowman in Ipswich at summer time.

Keep your cool this Christmas.
