Public information sessions for Inland Rail project

Ipswich residents will get the chance to hear about the Australian Government’s $10 billion inland
rail line that will transport freight between Melbourne and Brisbane at a series of community
information evenings.

This new 1,700km line is the largest freight rail infrastructure project in Australia. The first train is expected to operate from 2024-25.

The proposed route takes in the Ipswich region, including Grandchester, Calvert, Ebenezer, and then travels to Kagaru in the Scenic Rim, before joining up with the existing Bromelton to Acacia Ridge line.

The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) is hosting information display sessions about the Inland Rail project at various locations, including Yamanto, Gatton and Toowoomba, in November.

These sessions will focus specifically on the alignment through Gowrie-to-Helidon (G2H), Helidon-to-Calvert (H2C), and Calvert-to-Kagaru (C2K).

Infrastructure Service Department acting chief operating officer Tony Dileo said Ipswich City Council has formed a working group with ARTC to share information about how the project is progressing.

“They have recently provided details of upcoming community information sessions that they are running in November 2018. There’s three scheduled to take place in Yamanto, which is an opportunity for community members to find out more about what is being proposed for the Ipswich Local Government area,” he said.

The Yamanto sessions will take place at the Yamanto Shopping Centre on Monday 12 November (10am-5pm), Wednesday 14 November (10am-5pm) and Saturday 17 November (9am-3pm).

ARTC has also developed an interactive map covering the three projects to help landowners and other residents get a better understanding of the key issues from a community perspective.

The interactive map allows members of the public to have their say by simply dropping pins on the map. As the project continues to develop, the map will be updated to reflect the design as it becomes available.
