Repairs on unloading bays at Rosewood Recycling and Refuse Centre will soon begin, after subsidence issues triggered their closure earlier this year.
Growth, Infrastructure and Waste Committee Chair Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the unloading bays had been closed for the past five months after subsidence below the unloading bays was discovered.
“The Rosewood Recycling and Refuse Centre is more than 30 years old and is set to be replaced with a new Western Resource and Recovery Centre to support the growing Rosewood-Thagoona-Walloon corridor,” Mayor Harding said.
“In the interim, council will work on restoring the unloading bays to allow local residents better access to refuse and recycling services.”
Growth, Infrastructure and Waste Committee Deputy Chairperson Councillor Paul Tully said the unloading bay upgrades were part of council’s commitment to improving waste collection for residents.
“Since the subsidence issue was discovered, temporary skip bins have been in place to allow local residents to continue to access recycling and waste services,” Cr Tully said.
Deputy Mayor and Division 4 Councillor Russell Milligan said residents may see some changes at the centre in the coming weeks to support the restoration project.
“The temporary skip bins may be moved to another location within the centre allowing for the repairs to take place, which should not impact customers,” Deputy Mayor Milligan said.
Division 4 Councillor Kate Kunzelmann said the upgrade would commence shortly.
“The work on restoring the unloading bays will begin on 23 November and is expected to continue until late December,” Cr Kunzelmann said.
“Safe access to the centre will remain throughout the project.”
