Fresh, feel-good mex will be on the menu with international brand Zambrero locked in as tenants for the Nicholas Street Precinct dining, leisure and entertainment hub.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the good news keeps coming for the Ipswich Central redevelopment.
“Zambrero will join an exciting mix of sensational food experiences ready to launch as tenants in the new CBD,” Mayor Harding said.
“We welcome Zambrero to our new city heart, adding some spice to our line-up of food destinations including That Dumpling Place, Gelatissimo and Sushi Hyo.”
Ipswich Central Redevelopment Committee Chairperson Councillor Marnie Doyle said council was thrilled to have Zambrero on board.
“This is the fourth tenancy announced for Metro B, with Zambrero poised for prime position on the new terrace,” Cr Doyle said.
Cr Doyle said the popular international restaurant served more than just Mexican-inspired food.
“Every regular burrito or bowl purchased at Zambrero means a meal donated to someone in need with ‘Plate 4 Plate‘.
“Nicholas Street Precinct visitors will be able to contribute to the goal of one billion meals donated by 2025.”
Zambrero Head of Corporate Restaurant Development Jeremy O’Neill said they were thrilled to be opening their doors in Ipswich CBD, in the newly developed Nicholas Street Precinct.
“It is exciting to have the opportunity to further contribute to the City of Ipswich, both by creating over twenty new jobs and by providing access to a modern take on Mexican cuisine,” Mr O’Neill said.
“This will be our third restaurant in the Ipswich area to further complement our Yamanto and Bundamba restaurants.
“This newly developed food and entertainment precinct is the perfect fit for Zambrero.”
The Nicholas Street Precinct redevelopment is a once-in-a-generation project which has included the opening of Tulmur Place civic plaza in November 2020, a new Ipswich Central Library in December 2020 as well as the delivery of a new council administration building and Australia’s first stand-alone dedicated children’s library in June 2021.
It also includes the restoration of The Commonwealth Hotel (formerly known as Murphy’s Hotel) and delivery of a new dining hub and retail spaces.

Councillor Doyle said the construction phase of Metro B within the Nicholas Street Precinct was coming to an end, making way for exciting dining and leisure tenants.
“It will not be long before the revitalised city heart will be full of colour and life and welcoming visitors,” Cr Doyle said.
