Come along and plant a tree at a free Community Tree Planting on 30 July to celebrate National Tree Day.
Environment and Sustainability Committee Chairperson Councillor Russell Milligan said the council had partnered with West Moreton Landcare Group to host the event at Mason’s Gully Bushcare site.
“A tree planting day is a great way for the community to get involved in supporting the region’s unique environment,” Cr Milligan said.
“We will be planting up to 250 plants, some species include Rosewood trees, Native holly, Velvet cassia, Lomandra and narrow-leaved bottle tree.
“Council partners with dedicated volunteers at seven Bushcare sites across Ipswich and it is one way the council is working with the community to enhance and regenerate green spaces.”

Division 4 Councillor Kate Kunzelmann said the city’s Bushcare groups do a tremendous job supporting the natural environment and council recognised their incredible ongoing volunteer work.
“The Bushcare group at Mason’s Gully started 22 years ago as a Landcare funded site and they have regenerated areas, propagated native plants and looked after new tree plantings with watering and weeding,” Cr Kunzelmann said.
“The tree planting day is a great way for the wider community to experience first-hand the great work these groups do to rebuild vital ecosystems and wildlife habitats.”

National Tree Day started in 1996 and has grown into Australia’s largest community tree planting and nature care event.
Each year, hundreds of thousands of people volunteer their time to plant seedlings and regenerate thousands of hectares of unique Australian landscape.
It is a call to action for all Australians to get their hands dirty and give back to the community.

Community Tree Planting is on Saturday 30 July from 10am to 12pm at Mason’s Gully (John Street Reserve), 65 John Street, Rosewood.
