Ipswich’s small businesses will be given a boost with council’s COVID-19 Recovery Small Business Funding Program round two opening to assist businesses through the pandemic.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said Ipswich City Council is on its way to becoming South East Queensland’s first small business friendly council and initiatives like this ensure local businesses in need are supported.
“Small businesses are the backbone of the Ipswich economy and they create local employment, provide essential goods and services and attract people to live, work and visit Ipswich.” ” Mayor Harding said.
The first round of the funding program supported 76 local small business owners cover important inventory costs, professional services and memberships during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The second round of the program will open on 1 October 2020 after it was endorsed by council’s Economic and Industry Development Committee.
Economic and Industry Development Committee chairperson Councillor Nicole Jonic said small businesses are vital to our region, creating local jobs and driving the local economy.
“We wanted to be able to help those businesses in particular, that were not eligible for other government grants that have been available,” Cr Jonic said.
“Our fund is designed to support businesses that can demonstrate an at least 20% reduction in turnover.
“In round one, individual grants of up to $1000 in quick response cash payments were available with 76 businesses benefiting from the grant totalling $68,513.
“Based on local feedback, for round two we wanted to expand the range of eligible expenses that are to be covered ensuring as many local businesses as possible are able to access this business fund.”
