Nicholas St update: Steel frame for new library taking shape

The core of the new Ipswich City Council administration building being built as part of the Nicholas St redevelopment has climbed to level two this week.

There are about 100 workers currently on site for the redevelopment.

In the past week, crews on the administration building have focused on bringing the core system up to ground level and then to level one and two.

Form work for basement concrete pours has also been carried out.

The installation of precast columns from basement level to ground level took place this week as well as the installation of perimeter scaffold for the ground level of the development near Bremer Street.

Crews on the civic plaza part of the redevelopment shifted focus this week to concrete pour 10.

As well, they have been working to erect structural steel for the new library, preparing for upcoming concrete pours and constructing a shear wall.

The Nicholas includes construction of a new council administration building, library and civic plaza as well as new retail, restaurant, recreation and entertainment precincts.

The restoration of the Commonwealth Hotel on Union Place, commonly known as Murphy’s Pub, is also being progressed as part of the redevelopment.
